Librarian Spy Irene is heading into danger. Christine's narrations of all the many characters are so well done! I'm now going to investigate other titles she's narrating on! The series author "Genevieve Cogman" is a TOTAL mind extraordinare! Such ideas & wit! These were her first rodeo into writing apparently, WOW! Somebody needs to give Ms Cogman all the fantasy fiction awards available already for this series!! I'm also going to be checking out everything else Ms Cogman has written now! Thanks Audible this of author + narrator coupling is an exceptionally good job.Return to the world of the Invisible Library for Irene's most perilous mission yet. Christine Atherton is the fantastic narrator of the whole series giving it continuity. Started out on the 1st 3 books reading the hard copy then found them narrated here. Fast paced wit & drama, great plots & twists, friendship, romance, intrigue & laugh out loud humour a plenty. For anyone who likes 21C fantasy this series is a must with everything going for it. Would and will absolutely recommend to others. Well written, keenly intricate but not too detailed as to lose the readers interest, and refreshing in the narrative as a whole. However, this minor gap in my satisfaction leads me to give this book and series a 4 out of 5 stars. I would have loved a stronger ending with a more meaningful backstory to the greatest protagonists of the series, but other reviews have me guessing that perhaps I missed something along the way. I was surprised and vaguely uncomfortable with the deeper dive into the romance portion of the story in the final book. She consistently acted in line with what her character profile was set to from the beginning.

What I truly loved about this book is that while romance was involved it did not tarnish the protagonists character or values.

It’s not as fantastical as Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings in it’s fantasy narrative but it does dip far enough into that realm to stand uniquely on its own and secure its spot within the genre. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and a touch of fantasy. Over the year that it took me to digest the entire literary series I found myself fully engaged and immersed in the world(s) of lead characters Irene, Kai, and Vale.
